Art Rebels

Here at the Ideal Showroom an art collective from Denmark called Artrebels worked every day on a paper installation. Besides that they also sold prints - we bought the one above. It is from Hvass & Hannibal, a duo which is also part of the collective. See more prints of them here - everything can be ordered online.

Hier beim IDEAL Showroom hat ein Künstlerkollektiv namens Artrebels aus Dänemark jeden Tag an einer riesigen Papierinstallation gearbeitet. Außerdem gab es Drucke zu kaufen - das Poster oben ist jetzt unser. Es ist von Hvass & Hannibal, ein Duo, welches auch ein Teil des Kollektivs ist. F.C.Gundlach

Since november there is an exhibiton going on in the NRW Zentrum in Düsseldorf on fashion photography - MODE:BILDER. The photos are taken from the collection of F.C. Gundlach, a famous photographer of the 60s himself. For the first edition of the WEAR Fashion fair in Düsseldorf, some photographs of F.C. Gundlach himself were chosen for a special exhibition which will be seen at the location of the fair.

Seit November ist im NRW Zentrum in Düsseldorf eine Austellung über Modefotografie zu sehen - MODE:BILDER. Die Ausstellung ist eine Auswahl aus der Sammlung von F.C. Gundlach, selbst ein bekannter Modefotograf der 60er Jahre. Für die erste WEAR Fashion fair vom 8.- 10.2.08 ist eine Ausstellung zusammengestellt worden mit Fotografien von F.C.Gundlach selbst. Die Ausstellung findet auf dem Messegelände statt.

China in Town

There is a very interesting exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna. It is called "China - Facing Reality".
As china being a topic of many discussions around world economy, the name leaves various interpretations open. Is it the artists that more and more face reality since the country has open upt o the world? Or is it China as a country that has to face all the problems that go with such a rapid development from a more or less third world country to an industrial nation?
Anyway, the exhibition is a must see when you are near Vienna.

Momentan findet im Museum für Moderne Kunst in Wien eine sehr interessante Ausstellung statt. Sie heißt "China - Facing Reality".
Da China momentan wohl DAS Thema in allen Diskussionen rund um die Weltwirtschaft ist, lässt dieser Name mehrere Interpretationen offen. Sehen hier nun die Künstler der Realität ins Auge sehen nach dem sich das Land der Welt geöffnet hat? Oder ist es China als Land welches nun all den Problemen ins Auge sehen muss, die mit so einer rasenden Entwicklung vom mehr oder weniger Dritte Welt Land zu einer Industrienation einhergehen?
Wie auch immer, die Ausstellung ist ein Muß, wenn man in der Nähe von Wien ist!

ART.FAIR.21

Well well...unfortunately, the Art.Fair.21 was not worth the money. I had not so much to do with what was exhibited, but more of the way it was exhibited. First the atmosphere (the light) was horrible - too glaring. Second there was no structure - at least I did not recognize any. On the small brochure/map there were only the names of the galleries given - you had to be an insider. In the booths themselves there was hardly any written information on the exhibited pieces. Sometimes there were books of the artists, but all in all it was just not accessible enough for a public fair. I expected more of an exhibition than the atmosphere of a classic fair.
Of course there were some pieces that caught our attention anyway and I have already been busy with collecting some more information to show you some things in the next weeks.
One highlight was the special exhibition on the International Photography Awards by Pilsener Urquell. More of it soon...

Nun...ich muss leider sagen, die Art.Fair.21 war ihr Geld nicht wert. Es lag weniger an dem, was ausgestellt wurde, als an der Art wie es ausgestellt wurde. Erstens: Das Licht war zu grell - die Atmosphere war dadurch schrecklich. Zweitens gab es keine für mich erkennbare Strukutur. Auf dem Messeplan waren nur die Namen der Galerien angegeben- da musste man sich schon auskennen. Auf den Messeständen selber gab es dann auch nur enttäuschend wenig Information in der Form von Text über die ausgestellten Stücke. Es lagen zwar manchmal Bücher aus, aber alles in allem war es einfach nicht zugänglich genug für eine öffentliche Messe. Ich hatte etwas mehr Ausstellung erwartet und etwas weniger Messe.
Natürlich gab es trotzdem Werke, die sehr interessant waren und ich sammle schon fleißig Informationen um hier in den nächsten Wochen etwas zu zeigen.
Ein Highlight war allerdings die Sonderausstellung zum International Photography Award von Pilsener Urquell. Demnächst mehr davon...

Yoshitomo Nara

I have been a fan of Yoshitomo Naras art for along time and was very happy that a gallery here in Cologne exhibited some of his work. There was not so much to see, but luckily they showed the Mini Puff Marshies - five giant heads of a girl made of fibreglass. I especially liked the colour and texture of these pieces. Also the Big Pup Head was great to see in real life, since it was bigger (it is huge) than i expected.

Ich bin schon länger ein Fan von Yoshitomo Naras Arbeiten und war sehr froh sie heute in einer Galerie hier in Köln bewundern zu können. Es waren nicht viele Arbeiten ausgestellt, aber glücklicherweise die Mini Puff Marshies, fünf überdimensionale Mädchenköpfe aus Fiberglas. Besonders fasziniert war ich von den sanften Eisfarben und der Textur. Außerdem habe ich endlich mal den Big Pup Head gesehen, einen Hundekopf, ebenfalls aus Fiberglas. Er war viel größer (riesig) als ich ihn mir vorgestellt hatte.

Arnhem Fashion Biennale

On saturday we went to the Arnhem Fashion Biennale. As I studied in Arnhem it was a nice opportunity to get an idea of what is going on in that little town I left two years ago. Saturday was the last day of the exhibition so we were lucky to get a package of pappabubbles candies when we purchased our tickets. HAPPY FASHION was the motto of the biennale.

I decided to show you the following designs, because of what I saw they were the most striking.
Yoshikazu Yamagata in collaboration with knit artist mafuyu knitted and crocheted dresses as an allegory of his hometown. A very poetic approach to create something that can be worn, used as a product or that is just something to play with.


Bas Kosters could be called an all-round-designer more than just a fashion designer - he even makes music nowadays. His installation in Arnhem resembled a white-trash-trailer-park, except for the trailer was not a living space but a kiosk.
